Special Educator Aide

Since the last few years, educational opportunities for children with special needs are growing but in order to make the learning more effective, there is need for trained special educator aides. These aides support the educator or teacher of children with special needs, manage the classroom activities more efficiently.

Nithya Saadhana initiated the training program on Special Educator Aide a few years ago, and given the experience of its founders, curated a well-designed syllabus to equip the young adult with Intellectual Developmental Disorders to work in a special schools for young children.

The course equips them to work as an aide to a special educator, or even in a regular kindergarten along with the main teacher. The training program includes the following:

  1. Understanding different types of disabilities and equipment used by persons with disabilities
  2. English Reading to help follow written instructions
  3. Having the classroom ready for teaching and winding up at the end of the day
  4. Filing of academic worksheets of students
  5. Assisting in creating charts and flashcards
  6. Classroom activities such as distribution and collection of books and colouring/ sketching materials.
  7. Outdoor activities – to understand the safety requirements, conducting the games, escorting the students to and from the games field
  8. Personal support – helping students during meal times and toilet breaks

Additionally, the training programs also support the participants in effective grooming, proper usage of various gadgets, improving their communication and social skills and correspondence. More importantly, it trains them on travelling independently, while observing the various dos and don’ts, for their own safety.
